Ok, so is this the year my family has a ridiculous amount of health problems or something?
My brother was in the hospital awhile back for some weird infection. The thing causing the infection needs to be surgically removed, and since he doesn't have health insurance...he's kinda fucked. It shouldn't be a problem for another 5 years or so, but in the meantime, he's on antibiotics and Vicoden...which would be why I havne't called him yet. He's probably in outer space. This is yet another one of those inherited conditions we'd all like to just disappear. I bet chewiing through his vacation days like this sucks, because we're all unsure of whether or not he gets sick days. And watching a hyper one-year old on those drugs...the excitement never ends.
I went and practiced democracy today, while voting for the TA's to unionize. The group in charge of setting up the union wasn't even going to hold a vote unless 80% of the TA's were for it. They need 2/3 of the TA's on campus to win, so it's probably going to go through. I think the main reason is so WE can get health insurance. We can pay for it, but for all the grad students who have families, they can only insure themselves, they can't insure their kids or anything.
Ahh, health insurance...the lack of and expense of which will indeed keep screwing us over...I have it, but I don't think it's applicable anywhere but in Ohio. Thankfully the student clinic is rather cheap, all things considered...
Studying for finals is about to commence upon me, as I'm trying to remember how to do all this thermodynamic homework bullshit. We're having the exam open book, but not open note. While the book has more information than my notes, the index is fucking useless, and I can usually find what I'm looking for in my notes, then I find that part of the book that way. Oh well, I'm really not too worried. I think I may be barely beating Mariana in the total points in that class, and Dr. Schreiber isn't going to fail both of us, not when we were kind enough to take his class and keep it from getting cancelled. Typically, you need 5 people to run a class, but everyone else was over in the protein class. And why this would be remotely interesting to anyone is beyond me. :p
I was intending to apartment shop, but that got boring, so I'm just shopping now and reading about the harmful impact of plastic bags. Much cooler than well, homework anything. :p
