OH LORD.

Facebook group...

And holy crapsticks, I KNOW EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THESE. Well, all but one or two. I didn't get to all the spelling errors, there's a fair amount. South Lyon edumacation still going strong.

-Theres 5 trailer parks all within miles of one another (yep, some of them are new)
-Every mile theres at least one pizza place, gas station, and grocery store. (at least every mile and a half on the main drag, there's not a grocery store at 10 Mile)
-You remember when Kroger's used to be a u-pick pumpkin patch (yep)
-Busch's used to be Farmer Jack, and before that Showerman's IGA (yep, was IGA when we moved there)
-A&W used to part of hungry howies...though the juke box is still there (Didn't A&W used to be Brown's? I haven't been in South Lyon...well...it's been a few years, since I can't remember when I was last there.)
-Your school district has kids from a ridiculous amount of mailing addresses including plymouth, ann arbor, novi, brighton, etc. (GOD yes...it was insane! Our school was the best in the Kensington Valley area, so a fair amount of kids went to SLHS instead of their district schools. Plus the actual city limits are only 5 square miles, maybe, but the school district is 88 square miles. Don't quote me on those exact numbers.)
-If you've ever had a rocket cone (I think I have, but I definitely frequented the downtown businesses more often once I was out of that trailer park)
-If you've ever wondered why people hang out in the Farmer Jack parking lot...or if you ever have (guilty as sin, and there's not many places to hang out. At the time, they had the best shops in town for those of us without cars.)
-Snow days don't happen...and if they do its a miracle (I never knew it was a snow day until some nice parent would come by the bus stop where we were freezing...or I'd get cold enough and figure I needed a nap-I think a snow day was announced ONCE in my 9 years of school before I had to be at the bus stop. Plus days when it takes more than three hours to get all the kids bussed to the middle school and the elementary kids don't make it...just call it already, dipshits.)
-Mr. Grieves has ever played the bagpipes in your school (FUCK YEAH! Full Scottish kilt to go with it. He was my English teacher for Brit Lit, btw. My other Brit Lit teacher, Mrs. Howell, was known for having her computer spontaneously combust)
-If you remember when Larry Jackson was out sick for falling off of a ladder while fixing a gutter (this must've been after my time. Just guessing, since whoever wrote this up is SO after my time. In either case, I didn't hear about it. He was the SLHS principal, btw, and I believe it. He was a doof.)
-If you remember when SLHS "caught on fire" (Hahaha, I did hear about this, but it was 2 years after I graduated)
-If Erwin's is the only cider mill you consider going to during the fall (why on earth would you go anywhere else?)
-If you remember when there used to be an annual fair in the middle school parking lot (Yes, thank you so much for banning that school superintendent...Dr. Pearson, was it? Don't remember his name... You douchebag.)
-If everyone still goes to Pumpkinfest even though it has gotten slowly worse over the years (they do, and the progressively worse part has everything to do with the fair being canceled)
-If you still are confused why no business can survive on the corner of 10 and Pontiac Trail...and remember all the businesses it's been (I don't remember all the businesses it's been because I can't count that high, but that is a stumper. Also true-that restaurant-zoned building gets under new ownership or sits there closed EVERY DAMN YEAR. There's an ice cream shop down the road across from the Presbyterian Church that has the same problem)
-If you know that the street names change to things like Lafayette (It's Pontiac Trail and we all know it)
-If you watched all of the fields around South Lyon slowly turn into subdivisions (I lived my last 4.5 years in South Lyon in one of these former fields.)
-If you've ever been to the bakery (hmm, nope)
-If you've ever gone to spring mill pond, especially on the last day of school (GUILTY AS SIN, and that was a fucking fun day! Can't believe nobody put its original name here...Bare Ass Beach. Also, was I the only one who wasn't a lobster after that day? I know Becky and Jenn got burnt to crisps.)
-If Mt.Brighton is the biggest hill to snowboard on anywhere in the area (Biggest? I thought ONLY was the word you were looking for here.)
-If you remember when Snap Fitness was Papa Murphy's Pizza (Yep...)
-If you don't understand why there are 3 CVS' within 4 miles of each other (two of those went up after I was long gone, and there must be 4, since one of those is NOT within 4 miles of the last one.)
-If going to friday night football games was a social event, and most people didn't even watch the game... (Yep. We bit candy necklaces and flung the bits out into the crowd, because we were upstanding moral citizens.)
-If you remember Brew Waters...wait...is that still open? (hmm, drawing a blank here)
-If you went to fifth grade camp and remember the fifth grade track meet (I still have my shirt from the 5th grade track meet, and my obsession with taking loads of pictures started at 5th grade camp. Also, I broke a tooth at the 5th grade track meet-it got capped after I broke it again in high school.)
-If you know Mr. Admiraal is the best cheerio eating math teacher ever (never had him or heard of him for that matter)
-If you used to just hang around time after school got out during middle school and go into CVS (Anecdata time! In my day, it was a Big Boy, and we went for malts or shakes after school)
-If you remember when there was a burger king where Leo's is and an Arby's where Biggby's is (I know where both those places were, guess they're gone/renamed now...)
-If you know South Lyon used to be the horse capital of the world just because it was a jeopardy question (Those of us from South Lyon have so little to brag about)
-If you know that many pot smokers hang out at Mchattie park...and that is why police officers on bikes frequent the area during summer (Oh...so THAT'S why they're always there. Plus the station's nearby, how handy. Oh come on, DUH.)
-If Larry's is the only thing 24 hours...other than CVS (....Larry's?)
-If you've ever hung out at Wal-Mart for lack of anything better to do even though you have to drive to New Hudson (Definitely after my time, but I made up for it after moving to Houghton, where Walmart trips at 2am were a good study break. Then they built Taco Bell, but I still need to be moderately->severely drunk to eat that food.)
-If you used to HATE the traffic getting out of the high school before they put in the second entrance (HOLY SHIT. I didn't own a car until I was nearly 21, but everyone in 6th period my senior year would either run like hell to get out of the school before it gridlocked or just pull out some homework and wait-it was one serious bottleneck.)

Okay, now...I have very few friends from South Lyon reading this, but it amused me so damn much. Which is probably a minor miracle, considering I really don't like the town and didn't particularly enjoy growing up there. Can't deny that I know it inside and out though.

I think I intended to do laundry today. Yeah. Fuck it.
