I think I just easily had the best Winter Carnival ever, although last year's would come in at a close second. I don't think I really did jack shit for Carnie my first two years, (too warm freshman year, way too damn cold sophomore year, and all my friends had flown the coop, worked most of my junior year). I did not really get to spend enough time with really anybody-Scott, Stu, Jason and I all kinda had to make ourselves stop talking on Saturday night because we were all dead on our feet, but were running out of time...my Carnie started a wee bit later than most others, but I enjoyed myself SO MUCH.

Thursday: 1:15-Jason and I get lunch, toss all my luggage (I had packed up everything the night before) into his car, and take off.
1:20 or so-I get the first drunk call of Carnie-it's Belle, wondering where I am, because she hasn't seen me yet. My answer "in downtown Kalamazoo, heading for I-94" wasn't really what she wanted to hear, but alas, I had to teach that day.

The rest of the drive up wasn't too noteworthy. We went up thru WI, so Chicago sucked mildly, Milwaukee would have sucked much less if the roads weren't all torn up, Mandarin Garden in Green Bay serves fricking wonderful Chinese food, and we cheered quite loudly when we finally drove down US-41 past MTU's campus-at about 11:55 or so pm.

Got to the APO 'Anything But a Cup' party at midnight. Walked in the door, and as soon as Katie, Kerstin, and Belle saw me, I got mauled/hugged to death. Lora and JoAnn did the same, then I believe I got hugged again by Kerstin and Belle. Then Scott tried to break my ribs when he saw me (it took awhile, he was DRUNK!), then I got to hug Kati. I believe Monkey also hugged me, along with anyone else within range. I really didn't have a whole lot to drink-I had a beer, then a couple glasses of water. I stood out as a sober person, but who could tell, really? We did Seger, everyone got to kneel down to Belle. I'll spare a few other details to protect a few of the not-so-innocent. I had a good time, everyone else that I know of had a good time. It was really nice to go in and feel that I'd been missed. :)

Friday-well, tried to get some sleep, even though my stupid airbed deflated. Ended up sleeping in a bit, Jason ran out for muffins and donuts, and we ended up chatting with Scott, Stu, and Meegan for awhile. I then called up Kerstin and Belle, so we could meet and have fun. And a fishbowl or two, while we were at it. :) We ended up meeting them at the Ambassador at about 2:00, and Jason and I then met up with Roberta, Belle, Sparky, and Kerstin. They had just been served their drinks. So we had to grab a menu and order, because I love fishbowls, and Kalamazoo has none. They've made them smaller...GRRRRRR! Still tasty though... Probably the nicest thing about the meeting was being back on friendly terms with Roberta and Sparky, since that really wasn't going too hot last year. We kinda caught up, commented on the idiocy of well, anything, drank, and just in general had a good time. Everyone at the table toasted once we all had our drinks. Someone suggested toasting to Carnival, I suggested toasting to good sex. My toast was used. Apparently now that we were all at Carnival, we needed good sex. :p Katie eventually showed up-she was busy with sorority stuff and also staving off a nasty cold. Another person I really didn't see enough of, but it's understandable. I had two drinks, and then we ended up leaving to go play Euchre. After Sparky and I pulled off a nice win against Bob and Jason, (Nikki showed up somewhere in the midst), we took off, and still being really wiped out from the drive, decided to go for a low-key evening. Didn't stop Kerstin from giving me drunk call #2 of Carnie at about 4am from the APO Heaven & Hell party. Due to my stomach issues, I really can't drink a whole lot, and pretty much the theme of that party was to drink and drink some more. So we stayed in, cooked some food, and slept. Scott kicked me on his way in, having gotten seriously shit-faced once again-I mostly comment on this because well, it woke me up. :p

Saturday-Today was the day to spend with my brothers, having seen Belle, Kerstin, Bob, and Sparky on Friday. Jason and I got up and went to see the statues, he ended up buying a good chunk of stuff from the campus store, and we both bought the screensaver disk. I had actually planned on buying a new sweatshirt, but I would really rather get a WMU one-none of the MTU ones were really jumping out at me, and I don't really have too much WMU clothes yet. After viewing statues, we went to the potluck lunch, being held at St. Al's, for the pledges to meet the alumni. Too bad barely anyone showed up. Then it was off to usher the hockey game. Being an alumni who came up to visit, I got stuck at....the smoking doors. I fucking hate the smoking doors. Only worse are the doors by University Images. At least at the smoking doors you can watch the game, because barely anybody waits outside unless it's intermission. That was fun too, actually. The Minnesota fans right above us were being rude assholes, but after going to the NMU game last year at Marquette, I can safely say that we are meaner than them. :p Jason and I then went to Joey's for some really good shrimp (and 12 hours later, I needed Benadryl, but I LOVE their shrimp, dammit!). And Monkey and Melissa got in line right behind us... After dinner, back to Scott's place to change for the Gentleman's Ball party (wear long johns, girls in hats, boys in ties). Hardly any drinking was really going on here-everyone else was too bombed from the two parties earlier in the week, and the people who had traveled all had to drive home the next day. It was still a good time, and there were a couple exceptions to the no drinking. I'm mostly thinking of Nikki (my little brother in APO) who got TRASHED. She was hilarious that night. The only alcohol I consumed there was most of her Bailey's during Seger, since she kept saying how she couldn't down it for the last part. So I just grabbed it and chugged, left her about 4 sips-worth. Come on, I drank a cheap bottle of crappy Irish Cream at Smelt Fry last April(and may I now advise all my loyal fans to not ever drink a whole bottle of cheap Irish Cream in a 2-hour period ever? This goes double if you're lactose-intolerant) And the Bailey's at the party was tasty-it'd been made in a blender by some of the other alumni. Mmmmm, homemade liquor. Since hardly anybody at the party was drinking, we were all kinda just talking to each other. Memorable comments include the birth control hat, made by Amy, followed by Matt saying he was leaving her. I tried on the birth control hat, and Jason still said I was gorgeous, so ok, guess it's only mildly effective. Another was a comment about how what I was drinking would get me really wasted-it was water, but I think someone assumed it was vodka. Nope, I wreaked enough havok on my stomach with the shrimp, and since I had to travel the next day, I really didn't want to be drunk. I still had fun. We left the party at about 12:30 or so, then sat around in Scott and Stu's place chatting with them for the next two hours. We eventually had to fall into bed and acknowledge that sleep was needed.

Not a whole lot to say about Sunday, except that I stopped at the Hilltop to pick up some massive sweetrolls, had a breakfast which took forever to get served, the weather was on/off crappy at times, and Jason and I went to Big Buck in Gaylord for our Valentine's Day dinner. The food was good, the margarita was good, I wanted to bitch-slap the parents at the next table over for not really controlling their loud and obnoxious kids...good grief!

We got home at 11:30 last night. I can't wait until Smelt Fry, although I better not admit to my advisor where I was next time...Dr. Obare found me in the office today so I could order a respirator, and wasn't too pleased that I cut her class to go to Houghton to party-I wouldn't tell her where I was going last week, but she got it out of me today-probably because I'm in such a good mood. But it's easier to beg forgiveness than to ask permission, and there's a reason I bought 4 giant sweetrolls in L'Anse. ;)
